MERRY CHRISTMAS

THE PROMISE LAND BY PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME DSc. D.D

4 Excerpts from Chapter 1

Excerpt 1

Journey to the Promised Land - The Death of Moses

Moses was a hundred and twenty years old, when God spoke to him, and told him to go up to the mountain and die. Nothing killed him neither was he bent and his eyes were still functioning well. He went, laid hands on Joshua, and blessed him to become the next leader in his place, and then he bade the people farewell. He had enough time to speak to the people. Isn‟t it better to die like that than to die through an accident? Christians are not meant to die through sickness or accidents. There are more examples in the Bible.

Moses knew this; he knew that his forbears did not die through sickness or accidents. Abraham set his house in order and divided his wealth amongst his children (Genesis 25:5-8). Jacob in his own time called his children together, and blessed them one after the other. Then he said, “Goodbye, I am through with you now”, gathered himself up in the bed and died. Joseph had enough time to tell the children of Israel about their future exodus from the land of Egypt, and instructed them to carry his bones with them from Egypt (Genesis 50:24-25). Read about David, the great king of Israel. He had enough time to crown his own successor before he died. He was the only king who did that. That‟s the best way, no sickness or demon killed them.

And the biggest, incomparable of them all, our Lord Jesus said, Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father” (John10:17-18).
