Message For The Week

WHAT KIND OF VESSEL ARE YOU?

"But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour...prepared unto every good work" (2 Timothy:20-21)

In any home, there are different kinds of vessels. There are vessels that are for decorative purposes, whether in the living room or on the patio. In the kitchen, there are vessels of wood, as well as pots and pans for cooking, frying and marinating. In the bathroom, there are vessels of storing water, and outside the house, there's the vessel for the trash. Which of these do you think is the most important to the owner of the house? The answer is simple: none. That's because each vessel has its unique purpose. The vessels of gold are not necessarily better than the vessels of wood or iron; it all depends on their function.

The Bible likens each of us to vessels in a great house, which of course is God's house. The most important thing is not what kind of vessel you are, but whether you're functioning in God's calling for you. As long as you function where God has positioned you, you're a vessel unto honour. When you understand this, you would cease to wish you were "that other brother" who seems to be "in the spotlight." Imagine if the plastic vessel in the house looked at the aluminium pot on the burner with water bubbling in it and thought, "Why can't I go on the fire for a change?" We all know there's going to be a disaster if that happens! The plastic vessel is not made for that purpose.

Take pride in your uniqueness and stay where God has called you to be. It doesn't matter whether others notice you or not; God is pleased to have you functioning in His house! Be a vessel unto honour and bring glory to the Name of the Lord.
